1971
Decision process finalised to locate at Petit-Rechain in the Province of Liege, Belgium. The Petit-Rechain area was selected from several prospective sites in Belgium and other European countries. There were several reasons: excellent manpower availability, a large pool of skilled suppliers, the ease with which all key markets could be reached, good co-operation from local and regional authorities, plus a stable political situation.
Legal incorporation of Mercury Outboards Europe SA. W M Doman is appointed Managing Director.

Site start of construction.
Temporary offices installed in a nearby former school.
Company name changed to "MERCURY MARINE S.A."
Move into the new offices at Petit-Rechain. Construction had taken less than 6 months.
Purchase of 2 hectares of land on the Cheratte site near Liege.

The first Mercury outboard is completed at Petit-Rechain.
Construction starts at the Cheratte site.
1972
Move into Cheratte.

Official inauguration of the Petit-Rechain and Cheratte facilities. Around 250 officials from the Belgian Government, Brunswick Corporation and Mercury Marine USA are in attendance.

Staff celebration of the inauguration of the new premises.

1973
The first computer is installed and the data processing department is operational.

New equipment means that machining operations can begin.
1974
A second parcel of land is purchased at Petit-Rechain, bringing the overall site to 20 hectares.
Works Council Committee formed with representation from the management team and personnel throughout the organisation.
1975
Mass assembly of a new 4HP engine known as the "gnat" gets underway.
A farewell ceremony is held for W M Dorman who is returning to the United States. John Lannoye is named General Manager.

1976
Mercury Marine SA celebrates its fifth anniversary. Families of personnel are welcomed into the premises.

1977
Marine Power France is established.
1979
Marine Power Denmark, Marine Power Netherlands and Marine Power Norway are established.
Brunswick SA is formed. It is to have three divisions, Mercury Marine SA, Sherwood Medical Industries and Technetics.
